Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) is another thermoplastic option for chemical processing applications. Like polypropylene (PP) and Polyamide (PA), PVDF has great heat resistance and mechanical strength. Unlike Polypropylene and Polyamide, it has very strong UV resistance making it ideal for outdoor applications with sun exposure. The physical texture of Polyvinylidene Fluoride is smooth allowing for turbulent flow which is beneficial for food processing applications to prevent the surface buildup of fungi, bacteria, or other biological impurities. Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) also has resistance to organic compounds and acids; especially at high temperatures where acid resistance for Polypropylene and Polyamide materials decline. Because of PVDF’s superior combination of physical, temperature, chemical, and UV resistance, it is also one of the more expensive thermoplastic options.
