Ultrasonic sensors have various operating modes for flow switch output, including hysteresis mode and window mode. In hysteresis mode, ultrasonic sensors turn on and off at varied points, allowing more control over off and on functions while only using a single switch. With window mode, your 
Hysteresis Modesensors only turn on and off at a point that falls between a preset range.
 
Hysteresis mode works well for level measurement applications because it allows you to program switch points for high and low fluid levels.  Pumping applications, serve as a good reference to highlight the difference in hysteresis and window modes. In both cases the maximum and minimum tank levels will be programmed into the sensor. With window mode the pump would only turn on if the fluid level is within that range (will not turn on or turn off if level drops below minimum) and would operate continuously until the maximum has been reached. Hysteresis mode would force the pump on only when the level has dropped to the minimum (or below) and would operate until the maximum is reached.
 
The primary benefit of hysteresis operating mode is that it prevents continuous operation that places additional wear on sensors and leads to premature failure. This operating mode is typically found in mechanical switches, though electronic pressure switches can also feature hysteresis sensors.Hysteresis Mode NO Logic
 
Ultrasonic sensors with a hysteresis feature are best for applications involving only one setpoint. For applications requiring an upper and lower limit setpoint, you should use window mode.Hysteresis Function (Two-Point Mode) available in all variants with 2 digital outputs
  • There is no signal change outside of the hysteresis window
  • A converging object switches a signal at P2. The signal change is reset after reaching P1 again.
    • P1 + P2 form switching hysteresis endpoints
  • Compared to the single point mode only one output is necessary. Output 2 is complementary
  • Switching points are independently programmable
  • NO/NC is switchable
